Jarred Pt. 2
Due to popular demand, this now has multiple parts!!
Previous: Pt. 1
-----------
Jack made himself wait thirty seconds, biting his lip in anticipation as he tapped his foot against the ground. Honestly, his spark of anger at Tee had more or less died as quickly as it'd come, settling into a familiar level of annoyance, but he'd kept the act up anyways so he could rightfully get back at the tiny for the unwarranted jab.
Still, now, he couldn't help the feeling of a sort of almost... curl of something that seemed to settle heavier in his stomach as each second ticked by.
Tee's face right before Jack had closed the cupboard...
Jack swallowed, shaking his head and the thought away. The notion refused to settle, though, the image of Tee's panicked face swimming back to the forefront of his mind.
Jack almost thought he'd seen... a tear, going down the tiny's cheek, but it had to have been a trick of the light - a distortion of the jar. There was no way Tee would cry over something like this.
The more Jack thought about it, the more convinced he was, and his victorious anticipation bolstered from where it'd hesitantly fallen to the wayside.
Yeah, Tee was a stubborn little guy - had the personality of a mule and the attitude of someone, well, someone twenty times his size.
There was no way the tiny was genuinely as panicked as he'd seemed over being put in time-out.
Still, it would be actually mean to keep him in there for much longer.
That in mind, Jack grabbed back onto the cupboard's handle and swung it open again, smugly teasing with an already growing smirk, "Well? You learned your lesson?"
His smirk withered and died off his lips as he looked down at Tee in the jar.
His heartbeat began to pound against his chest even as everything seemed to grow muted in his ears. "... Tee?" he called softly, slowly reaching for the jar.
The tiny was curled up at the bottom of the glass, tucked into a ball with his face pressed against his knees as he laid limply on his side.
A suddenly desperate, screaming part of Jack reasoned that Tee was just playing a trick on him. That he was trying to get one over on Jack in revenge. That the tiny couldn't really be passed out, trapped in the bottom of a sealed jar after being forced inside of it and shoved into a dusty old cupboard.
Jack's stomach sank, and he couldn't stop the faint shake to his hand as he reached forward to carefully take hold of the jar.
Tee didn't even twitch from his prone position, not even when Jack lifted the jar - the cage (and oh, how the comparison had nausea crawling up his throat) - and slowly carried it over to the table nearby, ever so gently placing it on the surface before slumping into the seat before it.
With rote motions, Jack untwisted the lid of the jar, grimacing as the noise grated against his ears and setting the top to the side.
Still, Tee didn't show any sign of consciousness, limp as a doll.
Jack would have worried if he was even alive if not for the barely visible rise and falls of his little chest.
"Tee," he whisper-called, quietly trying to rouse his friend.
Not even a twitch.
Jack licked his lips and swallowed, trying again. "Tee."
Nothing.
Jack squeezed his eyes shut, clenching his hands together hard enough that his nails dug into his knuckles, whitening them.
Think, he told himself. Think. Tee wasn't waking up, and Jack had no way of knowing why.
Of course, the most obvious - and likely - cause glared accusingly at him, stabbing viciously at his chest.
Every one of Tee's actions leading up to this moment seemed to flash across Jack's eyes on replay, freed of any filters the giant had so easily let himself use to distort the tiny's behavior into a lens he felt comfortable with.
No longer did Tee's struggles to get away from his hand seem playful or exaggerated. No longer did Tee's shout seem like he was just playing along. No longer did Tee's fear seem anything but genuine and horrifying and sickening in its truth.
Because Jack had done that. Jack had scared his friend - terrified him - even before he'd forced the tiny into a jar he wouldn't be able to escape from. Hell, Jack had sealed him in.
For all Tee knew, Jack could've been planning on keeping the tiny in there indefinitely, leaving it up to chance whether Tee suffocated to death or not all alone in a cold, glass prison in the dark.
Jack pressed his palm tight against the mouth, swallowing back the sudden surge of bile that crawled up his throat.
He couldn't even protest his own accusations. He couldn't even reason that of course Tee should've known that Jack would never do something like that to him.
How could Jack reason such a thing after having so blatantly ignored the tiny's absolute terror to that point and on?
"Fuck," he whispered, scrubbing his hand up harshly through his hair and tugging painfully at the strands. God, he must've looked like a monster to Tee.
He'd acted like one.
Of course Tee had passed out in the face of everything, if only from the stress alone. Had he hyperventilated in those cruel, long moments Jack had so one-sidedly decided to keep the tiny locked away and alone for? Had the shock and terror of a giant so completely taking control of his actions sent him out like a light?
The only other reason Jack could think of for why Tee was unconscious was that something was physically wrong (physically wrong too, because there was no argument Jack could make that he hadn't mentally affected his friend - that he'd in all likeliness traumatized him with his callous, careless actions).
The thought that Tee might also be physically hurt had another sickening jolt of dread racing down Jack's spine, a feeling that did nothing to mitigate the lead stone of guilt that'd long since sunk into the pit of his stomach and instead worsened it.
What if Tee really was hurt?
What if Jack had been rougher than he'd realized, and the tiny had gotten his head knocked against the glass? What if the blow had eventually made the tiny pass out, or given him a concussion, or worse?
"Shit," Jack hissed under his breath, squeezing his eyes shut and barely restraining from burying his face in his hands. He took a deep breath and leaned in closer to the jar Tee was still stuck in the bottom of, ignoring the sick feeling seeing it now brought him, to take a closer look at the tiny.
He didn't - Tee didn't look hurt, but that was hardly saying much. The tiny's face was hidden by his knees, and his full, dark hair would hide any potential bumps or even small lesions against his scalp.
Jack swallowed heavily, a thick thread of unease winding through him. With Tee not waking up, he would have to take the tiny out of the jar himself to check him over.
He didn't want to.
He didn't want to be anywhere close to the tiny anymore.
He didn't deserve to be, not after what he'd done.
The thought of touching Tee (frail, so frail, so small, slight, defenseless against Jack except for in words, and even those had done nothing to stop the giant this time, to keep the tiny safe, respected, unfearing-) right now (at all, anytime soon, ever), of feeling the tiny's limp form in his palm (his fault, Jack's fault, all his fault)...
Jack's chest felt like it was compressing in on him, but he breathed around the strain, shakily bringing his hand to the opening of the jar. This wasn't for his sake. His feelings didn't matter in this.
What mattered was that Tee was unconscious, and Jack would be even worse of a person than he already was if he didn't at least ensure that the tiny was physically alright.
It was unlikely that knocking against the jar would've left more than a bump if it happened (which was already bad enough), but there was a small chance that the skin on Tee's scalp could've split open upon contact. And everyone knew that head wounds tended to bleed.
Jack's desire to get away and leave Tee to wake up on his own (with the jar carefully tilted to the side so he could leave and not be trapped or worry about a monstrous, horrible giant keeping him there-) was even crueler selfishness if it meant risking leaving the tiny to bleed out concussed and alone in a cold glass jar.
So Jack swallowed his nerves and finally squeezed his hand into the thankfully wide opening to the jar, his fingers twitching and flaring wide so that he would be able to carefully lift the tiny free, not unlike the hooks of a claw machine.
In the same moment, Tee bolted upright with a heaving gasp, and they both froze as they took each other in - Jack, looking at Tee's whole form, Tee, staring up at Jack's twitching, giant hand looming above him.
A fraction of a second later, Tee was slamming his back against the glass, crouching as low as he could and throwing up his trembling arms as if to ward off Jack's encroaching hand, and a horrible, sickeningly heart-rending scream that would undoubtedly haunt Jack's nightmares tore free from the tiny's throat.
~~~~~~~~~~
.... teehee :333
So~~ at least Jack wasn't at all malicious, right ;D poor sods, the both of them
It is objectively more funny to think that M has multiples of the same clothes because they are the least irritating on their senses, BUT ALSO i cannot believe that M wouldn't dress up sometimes with their love for keeping up the "aesthetic".
Tl;dr: M's outfit must: 1. have an alternative vibe to it, 2. be comfortable and easy to move in, 3. cover most of the body.
Unwind AU but how our world was in the pre-2020s because these kids deserve better
Connor: Delinquent, but not all that scary in truth. He just gets detention often enough, and plays a sport while being tall enough that other kids assume he’s strong so most kids leave his “gang” be. The kids in his gang use this for protection, but it’s a pretty bullyable lot overall despite the numbers. He’s left with a bad shoulder from overexertion, won’t say to anyone else how he got it, and everyone just makes up an edgy backstory for him.
Risa: Honor roll student who plays keyboard in band. In a wheelchair from a building collapse, but it wasn’t a harvest camp in this universe, rather that the home she was placed in at the moment by the foster care system collapsed.
Hayden: President of the broadcasting club, which just means that he puts together the morning announcements. Still amazing with technology, but he would rather do things like romhacks on his own time and use school to get himself in front of the camera and mic!
Camus Comprix: Cameron Cailloux (spent hours finding a replacement last name, be grateful Cam) gave me kind of a hard time because he. Well. Only exists in the books from a technology we don’t have and would never approve and even more uses of that technology that we don’t have and would never approve. The closest thing I can think of to his multitude of skin tones is him having vitiligo, and the closest thing I can think of for a lab made person is… IVF but that’s not even close to the same thing as what Cam is in the books. If anyone has ideas in the comments, I’ll edit and credit, but yeah he’s difficult. Photography club tho bc we can’t stop making fun of this man calling him Kodak. I might cut him altogether.
Mason Micheal Starkey: Storking is basically just adoption with less steps in the book so in this AU he was adopted by a family that was willing to take care of him, but he was bullied by other kids for being adopted with being told his birth family found him unlovable, and started to internalize those insults and build up resentment toward the people who put him up for adoption even without knowing them. When school is out for the year, he goes to a summer camp to learn magic. He’s much less bullied there, but it’s due to him using violence to get his way and not caring if he’s feared or respected as long as he gets to feel like he’s in control.
Levi: I am not touching most of his arc with a 50 foot pole because holy moly that was a lot of stereotyping. Levi’s family had to give him to the foster system after a layoff caused 10 kids to be too much to take care of. He played on the school’s baseball team before transferring out of his private Catholic school when put in the foster system, and now plays on the same team as Connor and is starting to question his beliefs now that he isn’t only around people who believe in God.
Roland: Learned a lot of violent behavior from his stepfather without realizing before going to juvenile detention for a non-premeditated murder. Openly violent in an attempt to be seen as scary enough to listen too, and frequently manipulated by Mason, who tricks him into using this behavior to cow his own rivals into submission while Starkey doesn’t have to go to detention for it.
Nelson: School resource officer, may he perish.
Argent Skinner: Self important hall monitor who sees himself as Connor’s arch nemesis as he tries to catch Connor in some mild mischief all the while missing how much of a pair of jerks Starkey and Roland are being.
Grace Skinner: On the chess club and CRUSHES in multiplayer math games when they’re used in class. She’s in special ed, but that’s not why people make fun of her, people make fun of her simply for being related to Argent. Argent has it doubly bad for actually being himself because nobody likes a persnickety snitch hall monitor. Her home computer has 4D chess with time travel installed, which Hayden will play against her on only to be terrified by her being just as good there too.
I didn’t watch far enough into a video essay, thought the books sounded good and didn’t realize they don’t even hold up by 2006 standards, and then had to finish the series once I started it bc OCD is fun and nooooow we’re HERE. Apparently the author is on here, I blocked him.
#unwind dystology#Let me know if I forgot anybody#If you didn’t read and don’t engage critically with Unwind DNI#Might delete later#connor lassiter#Risa Ward#Levi Calder#Camus Comprix#roland taggart#Hayden upchurch#Mason Michael Starkey#Grace Skinner#Jasper t nelson#argent skinner
Jarred Pt. 1
A tiny is rude to a giant, so the giant decides to teach the tiny a lesson - one they'll undoubtedly remember.
Time-out can gain a whole new meaning when you're four inches tall. (And a jar can feel claustrophobic even if you can so easily fit inside.)
Next: Pt. 2
~~~~~~~~
"-Yeah? Well I think you're stupid!" Tee shouted back up to Jack, stomping his foot on the counter for added emphasis and crossing his arms over his chest with a huff.
Jack's expression turned blank, then darkened. His jaw clenched, and there was an audible grinding of his teeth.
Tee couldn't help but falter, physically taking half a step back as a dark scowl settled on his giant friend's face. Suddenly, yelling at the much larger being didn't seem like it'd been such a good idea.
"H-hey-" Tee started to stutter, raising his hands in front of himself in a placational manner, but he cut himself off with a surprised squeak as Jack's hand shot out above him, ripping open a cupboard door with far more force than necessary and snatching up something inside.
Tee craned his neck up to see what, and his heart stuttered in his chest as he saw-
A jar.
A jar.
Jack was holding a large glass jar, one of the tall ones nearly twice Tee's height, and he was unscrewing the lid with vicious efficiency. Tee nearly jumped out of his skin when Jack slammed the lid onto the counter, and fight or flight mode finally hit the tiny like a train as he saw the giant's hand menacingly swoop forward in his direction.
Tee wisely chose flight.
He spun on his heel and bolted, his heart all at once hammering up from his chest and into his throat and his legs pumping frantically as he darted across the counter, the back of his neck practically burning with the undoubted glare of the furious giant behind him.
Tee barely made it ten steps.
He let loose a blood-curdling scream as Jack's palm collided with his back, giant fingers curling inwards around him like a Venus flytrap.
He thrashed wildly in the grip, any semblance of rational thought having abruptly fled his mind in place of pure, unadulterated terror, but he just as quickly froze - as still as death - when the fingers around him squeezed just shy of making his bones creak with the pressure, the threat as clear as day and all the more sickeningly petrifying for it.
He whimpered - a short, aborted sound - as his feet lifted up off the the counter, and he had to forcefully repress the urge to uselessly wriggle like a caught fish as the movement came to a stop with him aloft in the air, knowing - dreading - without having to look that he was being held above the opening to the jar.
He sent a desperate, pleading look to the giant - to his friend - but Jack's expression was closed off and so, so cold.
Tee's tentative hope that this was all a sick, twisted joke to get back at him withered and died a horrible death.
In the next moment, he was dropped. He landed awkwardly, barely catching himself from twisting his ankle as he landed hard onto the cool glass bottom of the mason jar, gasping out a shocked breath. He flinched backwards into the glass behind him as the jar was set none-too-gently onto the counter, and he craned his neck up high to stare with uncomprehending, fear-filled eyes at Jack.
The giant peered down at him dispassionately from the open lid of the jar. As if he hadn't just obliterated the carefully built, more than just tentatively hopeful trust a tiny had fully placed in his giant's hands. A gift so rarely given. A gift that was now destroyed.
There was movement in Tee's peripheral, and in the next second, his line of sight to the giant's face was blocked by a solid black lid, one that clacked gratingly against the glass before it begun to be twisted, Jack screwing it back onto the jar with what Tee could only perceive as a detached sense of finality.
"No," the tiny whimpered, sliding down the side of the jar and curling his knees to his chest, arms wrapping around his calves and gripping tight. This couldn't be happening. His - Jack wouldn't do this to him. He wouldn't.
But he had.
The tiny's head smacked into the back of the jar when he flinched as the giant's hand suddenly wrapped around the container, lifting it once more and making Tee's stomach drop into his guts with the too-quick movement.
There was a squeak of the cupboard hinges, and Tee had to quickly blink his eyes (which stung with tears that he refused to acknowledge or dare let fall for fear of them never stopping) as the light around him suddenly dimmed. He peered muzzily at his surroundings, which were ever so slightly distorted through the thick glass.
His breath froze in his lungs as he took in the cold, empty jars all around him, lifeless and covered in a thin layer of dust. None showing any sign of use, of ever - or only the rarest of occasions - seeing the light of day.
He snapped his neck forwards again and frantically scrambled to the front of the jar from where he saw Jack looking down at him, one of the giant's hands already loosely gripping the cupboard door's knob.
Tee shook his head, slightly at first, then with more desperation as his panic renewed with a stomach-dropping vengeance, his palms pressing up against the glass and his eyes wide and irrefutably pleading. He knew the giant wouldn't be able to hear him through the container, but a litany of frantic pleas and cries fell past his lips anyway.
"Please - please Jack don't do this. I'm sorry - I - I won't yell at you, or-or call you stupid or- do anything bad ever again. I was- I was wrong. I was wrong - please! I - you - you were right! About everything! I swear I'll listen to whatever you say, I'll- I'll do whatever you want - j-just - just don't leave me here!"
Jack just continued to stare dully at him, stony expression unchanged except for the briefest flicker in his eyes as hot tears abruptly spilled over Tee's blotchy cheeks.
They weren't enough.
(After all, Jack would have to care for him for his cries to matter.)
Slowly, inexorably, the cupboard door began to shut, and, tone foreboding and so, so sickeningly empty of anything close to concern, consideration, Jack finally spoke in the moment before Tee's world was pitched into terrifying, solitary darkness.
"You'll learn your place."
